The need to protect frontline services during 2012 and beyond requires that discussion on the payment of public service increments takes place, according to Fine Gael Deputy for Dublin Central, Paschal Donohoe.
“The delivery of reform in our public services through the Croke Park deal is vital for 2012. However, every single cent of taxpayer money must go into protecting frontline services in our hospitals, schools and elsewhere. Due to this, we must now examine the payment of public service increments this year and whether their payment is consistent with the maintenance and growth of services that we all depend on.
“Minister Burton’s acceptance of long-standing Fine Gael policy on increments over the weekend is very welcome. I hope this matter is seriously reviewed by Cabinet in the context of the changes and cut backs in the recent Budget.”
