SENATOR PASCHAL DONOHOE – CANVASS FOLLOW UP

Dear Resident,

I am writing to update you on matters that were raised with me during my canvass of your home in April. As a member of the Oireachtas representing the community, I also am writing to give you an update on my work in Seanad Eireann on your behalf. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you would like to raise any local or national matter with me.

REPRESENTING YOU IN SEANAD EIREANN

As a Senator, I work on legislation and issues that are important nationally and which have an impact on our local community. The main areas that I am focusing on at the moment include: –

  • The Dublin Transport Authority: Legislation has now been published to set up an organisation to deliver strategic planning for the transport needs of the Dublin region. I will be working to improve this plan through amendments in Seanad Eireann.
  • Standards in rental accommodation: working to ensure that updated legislation is stronger to protect those living in and near private rental accommodation.
  • Health Service Executive Funding of Local Facilities: working to make sure that local health centres and facilities are not jeopardised by HSE cutbacks.

CROKE PARK MATCH DAY PARKING

Dublin City Council has published a plan for match day parking in the vicinity of Croke Park. This plan will not allow parking within a vicinity of the stadium unless a permit is displayed. This cordon will stop at North Strand Road.

Dublin City Council will consider submissions made by any person in relation to theproposed Bye-Laws. Such submissions must be made in writing to Mr. Tim O’Sullivan, Executive Manager, Roads and Traffic Department at Roads and Traffic Department, Block 2, Floor 4, Civic Offices, Wood Quay, Dublin 8 or by email to traffic@dublincity.ie before 4.30pm on 19th June 2008.

This plan will have a substantial impact on match day parking and traffic management in the community. The proposed by laws, a briefing document and a map of the proposed cordon are available at www.dublincity.ie. If you would like me to send a copy of the plan to you please do not hesitate to contact me.

LEINSTER AVENUE – TREE PLANTING

Dublin City Council have confirmed to me that they will aim to plant some trees on parts of Leinster Avenue where footpaths are wide enough to allow root and branch growth. This will be done in the next tree planting season.

SPENCER STREET NORTH / LEINSTER STREET EAST

Local residents have expressed their concern over the need to have footpaths and roadways re-surfaced following the digging of these streets for the laying of pipes. The delay in having this work completed is an issue that I have raised with Dublin City Council. I have been informed that this work is due to be completed over the course of the next month. Should you find that the work has not been completed within this time frame, please do not hesitate to contact me and I will seek further action from the City Council.

VISITS TO LEINSTER HOUSE

Finally, I am honoured to be a new member of Seanad Eireann. Prior to my election I had rarely visited Leinster House to see the Houses of the Oireachtas and understand how they work. If you are interested in visiting our national parliament please contact me and I would be delighted to arrange a tour for you and any of your family or friends.

I am privileged to serve you in Seanad Eireann. If I can ever be of help to you please do not hesitate to contact me.

Yours Sincerely,

Senator Paschal Donohoe
