DDDA abandons local community by pulling funding for Sheriff Street school- Donohoe

11th February, 2010

Fine Gael Dublin Central Senator, Paschal Donohoe, has this evening attacked the announcement by the Dublin Docklands Development Authority (DDDA) that it can now no longer guarantee funding needed to rebuild a local school in Sheriff Street.

“One of the promised benefits of the Dublin Docklands development was that it would provide funding for local community facilities. This new school in Sheriff Street was meant to be a flagship of this policy. The DDDA now look like it is walking away from this commitment. If it does not provide the €6 million promised or make a commitment of future funding then it is making clear its contempt for the local community and its children.

“Local pupils should not be forced to suffer from the Dublin Dockland Development Authority’s incompetence and willingness to gamble money with developers.

“The DDDA must now clarify exactly what it can provide and I am also calling on the Minister for Education to make clear his support for this school and make a commitment of funding to see this much needed project through to construction.”
