On the 11th hour of the 11th day

12th November, 2010

Yesterday morning in the Seanad my Senator colleague Joe Reilly raised the need for a minutes silence to remember those Irish men and women who lost their lives in WW1 and WW2. This was ruled out of order. This set a theme for my day as I spent the afternoon in Glasnevin cemetery at a ceremony to remember those who lost their lives in these conflicts. I was honoured to lay a wreath on behalf of the Seanad.

We need to remember those who lost their lives in these battles. They form an essential part of our history. A wonderful oration during the event pointed out that many left their country as heroes but returned by the back door.

We helped remedy that, in small part, by yesterday.

I was also delighted to host, with Ray, a visit by a wonderful group by Drumalee residents to the Oireachtas. I loved their visit and look forward to their return soon.
