Rain and Mercs

I was at Fine Gael Election HQ attended a press conference this morning where Richard Bruton outlined some of our proposals to reduce the cost of Government. Car pooling for Ministers and an end to the car for life” of former Taoisigh were among the ideas.

It won’t solve all the problems we are in but it would send a powerful signal to the people that we are serious about change. No longer can Ministers live, as Richard said, “in a bubble, separated from reality”. It has led to arrogance and bad decision making amongst the political elites that misruled this country for far too long.

Reality bites this afternoon as I get back on the canvas. Bertie Ahern once said all elections should be held in the summer. Today’s heavy rain means there is at least one thing I agree with him on.
