New schools and foothpaths for Dublin Central

13th February, 2015

NEW PRIMARY SCHOOL FOR DRUMCONDRA / MARINO

The Government recently announced details of seven new primary schools that will be established across the country over the next two years. One of these new schools will be located in the Drumcondra / Marino area. The Department of Education has yet to identify a site for the new school but it is envisaged that it will open in September 2016. The New Schools Establishment Group within the Department will shortly begin the process of determining which patron will operate the school. Another new school will be provided in the Cabra / Phibsborough as the school going population in Dublin Central is increasing. Government has a responsibility to ensure that demand is catered for with the provision of extra school places. This follows on from the Budget where the Minister for Finance announced that 1700 additional teachers would be hired this year.

ALMOST €900,000 FOR ROAD & FOOTPATH IMPROVEMENTS

Streets across the north-east inner city will benefit from essential maintenance work this year following the allocation of €877,000 towards improvements to road surfaces and footpaths. Both Councillor Ray McAdam and I have been working to secure funding within the City Council’s Budget for essential repair and upgrade works to take place across Dublin Central. Some of the projects that will be completed in 2015 include the re-surfacing of Ossory Road, East Road and Upper Sheriff Street. Funding has also been set aside for the replacement and upgrade of footpaths along Ballybough Road. The City Council will shortly commence the tender process to select contractors to undertake the works and it is expected that these works will be carried out in the summer.
