The Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport, Paschal Donohoe TD, has today (Thursday) welcomed the announcement of Aer Lingus’ 2016 summer short-haul schedule, saying the increased frequency on already established routes, plus the addition of new routes, signals strong growth for the company.
“The Government’s decision to support IAG’s Offer for Aer Lingus last May was designed to secure the future of the company, enhance connectivity and create jobs. The company’s new short-haul schedule for summer 2016 will see the introduction of five new short-haul European routes; Pisa, Murcia, Montpelier, Dusseldorf and Liverpool. Frequency is also being increased on a number of routes from Dublin, Cork and Shannon to destinations such as Malaga, Alicante, Lisbon and Bilbao. Plans are also in place for the use of larger aircraft, with an estimated additional 250,000 seats expected to be delivered. This is great news for the company, which is showing real signs of growth and for consumers who will now have greater choice to more destinations across next summer.
“The National Aviation Policy, which I published in August, places competitive air access and enhanced connectivity for Ireland at its core. The delivery of new and more frequent Aer Lingus services from Dublin, Cork and Shannon next year drives that agenda forward, enhancing consumer benefits in the process.”
