Regulation of Lobbying – Second Return Date tomorrow

Minister for Public Expenditure and Reform, Paschal Donohoe TD, today (Friday) welcomed the continuing high level of compliance with Ireland’s Register of Lobbying. The purpose of the Regulation of Lobbying Act 2015 was to deliver appropriate transparency on ‘who is contacting whom about what’ and this was achieved by the establishment of a web based register of lobbying activity.

Lobbyists are obliged to register their second returns under the Act by tomorrow (Saturday, 21st May), showing any lobbying activity that took place from 1st January to 30th April 2016.

Minister Donohoe said: ‘I am delighted that there are over 1,050 registrants and over 3,600 returns on the lobbying register. I am also pleased to see that the cultural shift required to ensure successful implementation of regulation in this area is ongoing, with the number of registrants and returns increasing. Communication between the political systems, public service and all sectors of society will be supported and strengthened by this register leading to better informed policy and decision making’.
