EAST WALL POLICING MATTERS

10th April, 2017

Policing in East Wall has been an issue that was the subject of many conversations I have had in recent days with residents across the district. Particular concern about the numbers of Gardai in East Wall, criminal activity across the area and what actions and measures are being taken by local Gardai to address these and other concerns of residents. In writing to you, I wanted to provide you with detailed information relating to:

  • Garda numbers located in East Wall
  • Garda figures for burglaries and other criminal activity
  • Garda operations relating East Wall

  • GARDA NUMBERS IN EAST WALL

The East Wall Sector (includes both the residential and business areas) is divided up into ten “Small Area Policing” (SAP) sectors. There are currently eight Gardaí are assigned to these SAP areas, with seven officers working on a full-time basis and on a temporary basis. This is also complimented by the regular units working on a daily basis within the Store Street District. In total, there are 268 Garda officers assigned to Store Street Garda station, with 620 Gardai located in the North Inner City. Since our Fine Gael Government began the process of Garda recruitment again in 2014, 78 new Garda officers have been assigned to the North Inner City, which is almost 10% of all new recruits that have joined An Garda Siochana in the past three years.
