Aviation Bill 2009

10th June, 2009

Not the most exciting post ever but one of the objectives of this blog is to demonstrate what I do. One of the most important parts of my job is to review legislation. That is what I have been doing this afternoon and evening.

This bill will allow passengers to clear American customs and all the other checks while on Irish soil. They will then be able to walk right off the plane and through customs in the US.

My main questions were whether the preclearance officers would be allowed to carry weapons on Irish soil, ensuring that airports make the best use of this new facility and the diplomatic status of staff working in the preclearance area.

I got satisfactory questions to all of these questions. Might not be the most exciting part of my role but it it the most important!
