Central Area Policing Meeting

13th September, 2010

Policing Committee

This morning I attended the Central Area policing meeting. This is attended by public and community representatives and senior Garda members. This takes place every 12 weeks where major policing issues are discussed and reviewed.

The meeting kicks off with a review of policing statistics. This is sometimes like a scene from The Wire but does represent huge progress on previous years in terms of transparency and accountability.

Issues raised included the status of headshops, the level of arrests, number of community Gardai and specific policing issues across all of our communities.
