This morning Ray and I attended a conference organised by the Inner City Drugs Taskforce. In this meeting we heard a variety of contributions from different organisations involved in responding to drugs.
I learnt a number of things from the morning.
First – poly drug use or use of multiple drugs is a growing and massive problem.
Second – deaths and threats due to drug debts is more frequent. Some users are becoming dealers in response to money they owe.
Third – staff in this area are under relentless and exacting pressure, all exacerbated by cut backs.
Will raise these and other points in the Dail.
