East Wall, North Strand and the Interconnector

1st November, 2009

I have done a lot of work this week on the Dublin Interconnector and the impact of this project on the local community. This project will be an underground tunnel that will link up a lot of the existing transport infrastructure in Dublin and free up capacity at our busiest stations.

This project was mentioned in the new programme for government and, in my opinion, is the project most likely to happen out of the many in Transport 21. The railway order for the project is due end of this year or early next year.

Many residents who will be most effected by the new project have not received enough information on it yet. I have therefore contacted Iarnrod Eireann and have requested a meeting between their project team and key residents associations. We should make this happen in the next week.
