Future of Fitzgibbon Street Garda Station

26th October, 2011

Residents continue to question me about the future of Fitzgibbon Street Garda Station. As you know, there are plans to temporarily close the station whilst refurbishment works are completed. Chief Superintendent Leahy has informed me that the majority of officers have now been re-located to Mountjoy Garda Station. However, the Public Office in Fitzgibbon Street remains open and is manned on an around the clock basis. The Chief Superintendent also pointed out to me that work on a new Public Office adjacent to the existing office is near completion and is due to open shortly. When this facility is open to the public, it will also be manned on a 24/7 basis. Gardai will therefore continue to be present in the Fitzgibbon Street area to deal with any issue of concern to residents. Let me assure you that I am continuing to liaise with the Garda Commissioner and the Office of Public Works to establishing what the indicative time-line will be for the completion of the refurbishment works and when the new station on Fitzgibbon Street will open. I will continue to keep residents updated on these plans.
