Spent the afternoon canvassing. I think that it is so important that people see more of their politicians when times are hard. Some advised me to cancel our public meeting on Tuesday night as it might backfire. But surely that is the reason to hold them in the first place?
Really struck by the number of people who said this afternoon that the job of Fine Gael is to come into power when the country is in great difficulty, lay the foundations for recovery and then let FF get the reward. I have
never bought into this myself. I don’t buy into this theory of FG as saviour of the nation. If it was true we would have been in government more often.
However it’s fair to say, at least, that the tide is turning to us.
