The publication of our document – ‘New Politics’ shows, I hope, that ideas matter. The Labour Party have now announced that they will be publishing their own constitutional and reform plan.
As I’ve said again and again – at the very centre of our economic depression is political failure. No other political institution could support a counter point to a Government laying down policies that have nearly caused national ruin.
There is, of course, an irony here. At the very moment that Fine Gael enters (I dearly hope) government we are pledging to reduce the power of those institutions of government. Brave? Foolhardy? Maybe, but necessary.
