The Minister for Finance and Public Expenditure and Reform, Paschal Donohoe TD, has today (Tuesday) announced the appointment of Ms. Barbara Cotter as the Chairperson of the Strategic Banking Corporation of Ireland (SBCI) effective from 12th of March 2019.

Ms Cotter succeeds Mr Conor O’Kelly who will remain on the board of the SBCI.

Ms Cotter is a former Partner in A&L Goodbody and during her time as a banking lawyer, has supported Irish SMEs and advised lenders and investors in the SME community.

Ms Cotter has been a member of the SBCI Board since March 2015.

Commenting on the appointment, Minister Donohoe said:

“Barbara Cotter brings significant expertise in SME, banking and legal sectors and a very strong track record as a director to the role of the Chairperson of the SBCI and I wish her well in the role.

“I thank outgoing Chairperson Conor O’Kelly for his excellent contribution over the past four years as Chairperson of the SBCI board. Over that time he oversaw the evolution of the SBCI from its start-up phase to a position where it has provided over €1bn in funding support to over 26,000 SMEs and designed a range of risk sharing initiatives including the Brexit Loan Scheme, while ensuring that it is well positioned to carry out the challenging mandate it performs on behalf of the State”.
