Minister Donohoe to meet UK Chancellor of the Exchequer during working visit to London

5th March, 2018

Minister for Finance and Public Expenditure and Reform, Paschal Donohoe T.D. is in London today (Monday) for a working visit that includes a meeting with the UK Chancellor of the Exchequer, Philip Hammond MP.

The meeting is part of the regular dialogue between the Minister and his British counterpart and will provide an opportunity to review current international economic developments, as well as discuss matters relating to Brexit.

During the visit, the Minister will also meet with Minister for the Cabinet Office, David Lidington CBE MP. In addition, he will pay a courtesy call on the Shadow Chancellor, John McDonnell MP. The visit will conclude with a number of engagements at the European Headquarters of Bloomberg in the City of London.

Commenting on the visit, Minister Donohoe said: ‘I look forward to meeting again with my colleague Philip Hammond as part of our ongoing dialogue. My visit comes at an opportune time to review recent developments in relation to Brexit, including the publication by the European Commission of its proposed draft EU-UK Withdrawal Agreement, as well as Prime Minister May’s speech last week’.

“Ireland has always been clear that we want the closest possible relationship between the EU and the UK.   In this regard, we will continue to work closely with our EU partners and with the UK on ensuring a good outcome to the Brexit negotiations that sees the impact on our trade and economy minimised.”
