30th June, 2017

Minister for Finance & Public Expenditure and Reform, and Fine Gael TD for Dublin Central, Paschal Donohoe, has this evening (Friday) welcomed the news that planning has been approved for 80 social housing units at St. Mary’s Mansions in Dublin 1.

The development, which runs to a cost of almost €19 million, has an expected delivery date of Q4 2019 and includes the cost of acquisition of the site as well as construction of the 80 social housing units.

The Dublin City Council scheme is now being transferred to Cluid, as the Approved Housing Body, and is set to be funded by the European Investment Bank.

Speaking in advance of the announcement, Minister Donohoe said; ‘The approval of €18,925,000 for the refurbishment of St. Mary’s Mansions, which is situated between Sean McDermott St and Railway Street, is exceptionally welcome. St Mary’s has been in line for regeneration for some time now and the fact that the number of units to be provided has been increased will be welcomed by everyone involved in pushing this project forward’.

“The Government has placed a priority on the north inner city in recent years and there are real signs of progress, despite much work needing to be done. The local community deserves to see the Mansions progressed. Cluid and local reps will now work together to deliver 80 new homes for those most in need.”
