Minister Paschal Donohoe officially announces New Year’s Festival (NYF) Dublin

  • The new and exciting 3-day citywide festival featuring the NYF Dublin Countdown Concert & music trail, plus free family friendly events including Love Dublin, Luminosity NYF Food Village,  The Procession of Light and Resolution Day

 

  • Tickets for the NYF Dublin Countdown Concert go on sale this Friday at 9am with headliners Kodaline and very special guest James Vincent McMorrow

 

Today, Minister Paschal Donohoe officially launched NYF Dublin, a new and exciting 3-day citywide festival filled with Arts, Culture and Live Entertainment. For the first time, the New Year’s Festival will run across the city over three days from 30th December 2014 through to 1st January 2015 and is set to be the best New Year’s celebration that the city as ever seen.

 

Speaking at the launch Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport, Paschal Donohoe T.D., said,

“Dublin has the potential and the charm to compete with any city when it comes to celebrations. For that reason, we have invested in developing a ‘must-visit’ end of year festival to offer even more reasons for overseas visitors to choose Dublin as the place to be over the New Year and we look forward to welcoming many thousands of them to join us in celebrating the arrival of 2015. The New Year’s Festival has grown and grown over the last few years and I am confident that this year’s event will build on that progress”.

 

Explaining the importance of the festival, Orla Carroll, Director – Dublin Programme, Fáilte Ireland emphasised:

“This year’s New Year’s Festival, over three days, promises to be the most impressive end of year celebration the city has ever seen. With a mix of music, comedy, culture and craic, Dublin is extending an invitation to the world to come and mark the arrival of the New Year in one of the friendliest cities in the world”.

 

“The festivities also give us an opportunity to raise the profile of Ireland and Dublin as a destination and, along with the thousands of overseas visitors who will arrive, we will be inviting a variety of international journalists and bloggers from all over the world to Dublin to ring out the old, ring in the new and really experience what a vibrant and exciting place Dublin is”.

Luminosity: Dublin Castle, Wolfe Tone Square and Trinity College – 30 Dec 2014 to 1 Jan 2015

Prepare to be WOW’d as 3D light projections will bring to life the facades of some of Dublin’s most iconic buildings and statue – Dublin Castle, Wolfe Tone Square and Trinity College. Watch in wonder as Luminosity springs these buildings to life, telling they’re unique story with cutting edge 3D digital displays. The family friendly spectacle takes place daily from 5pm to midnight over 3 days.

NYF Food Village: Dublin Castle -30 December 2014 to 1 January 2015

The exquisite grounds of the iconic Dublin Castle will be transformed into the NYF Food Village over 3 days from 12noon until 7.30pm. Treat yourself to delicious artisan food and enjoy the stunning setting in Dublin Castle, as it becomes a hive of activity filled with free family-friendly entertainment plus performances in contemporary music and spoken word.

NYF Music Trail: Various Locations -30 December & 31st December 2014

Experience Live performances across the city as bands, DJs, and Choirs play in a host of city centre venues as people gather from all over the world to countdown to 2015 in style.

Follow the trail which includes Live performances from La Galaxie at Meeting House Square, Ruby Works Sessions at Chapel Royale in Dublin Castle, the Dublin Gospel Choir at Christ Church and Live Music and DJ sessions across Dublin pubs and bars.

The Procession of Light: From Stephens Green to Dublin Castle – 31 December 2014
