Moving Bye-election writs

27th April, 2009

Fine Gael will move the two writs for the Dublin bye elections tomorrow evening in the Dail. The people of both constituencies are been denied representation at a time when it is needed more than ever.

A polling date is approaching. Why on earth would the government not hold them both? They obviously expect to lose them both but there’s no reason why things will be that much better for them in October.

The whole thing appears a mess. In the UK the government has to hold a bye election within a certain time period of the MP passing away. It should be like this in Ireland. If we can do without 2 TDs for a while, why not 20? Why not them all? It’s a slippery slope that no government should be on.
