Order of Business 8th July

8th July, 2009

Senators Callely and Glynn made passionate contributions about the aweful behaviour of the banks. I couldn’t let this go unresponded to. I rose to point out that their government had recently contributed €6 billion to the same banks. Maybe they should have raised these concerns when they had an opportunity to do something about them? We are now treated to the spectacle of government ministers holding public meetings over the behaviour of the banks. They should have made the same points in private to the banks when they were negotiating with them over their re-capitalisation.

Entire day taken up with Justice legilsation. This is been ably handled by my colleagues and I am using the time to finish off my report on Sovereign Wealth Funds and their implications for Ireland.
