Order of Business Today

28th October, 2009

I raised the Iarnrod Eireann report today in the Seanad and called on the Minister for Transport to provide a report on what he is doing to tackle this issue. This caused an eruption from Senator Pearse Doherty of Sinn Fein. We were described an been an anti public sector party and of hammering the public servant.

Well, at least we know were SF stand on these issues! Soft on waste, soft on the causes of waste. I think the people who feel strongest about this are those in the public sector themselves.

Senator Doherty got angrier and angrier, going on about Enda Kenny claiming a teacher’s allowance. Fair point, I suppose. I helpfully heckled him over Gerry Adam’s record on expenses. He ignored me, but only because he couldn’t hear what I was saying. I raised my voice a few more times.
