Smithfield and Stoneybatter Food Festival will harness best local businesses have to offer – Donohoe

6th October, 2015

Inaugural Food Festival puts Smithfield & Stoneybatter firmly on the culinary map

Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport, and local Dublin Central Fine Gael TD, Paschal Donohoe TD, has this evening (Tuesday) said that the inaugural Smithfield and Stoneybatter Food Festival, which runs this weekend from of October 9th – 11th, will harness the best that local businesses in the area have to offer, delivering an end product that is greater than the sum of its parts.

Minister Donohoe was speaking at the launch of the festival in the Bow Street Academy, Smithfield.

“Smithfield and Stoneybatter have seen real growth in the number of restaurants and cafes in recent years, much to the delight of local residents. With a view to getting the word out about all the area has to offer, the Smithfield & Stoneybatter Business Association is embarking on this new and exciting initiative which will see local businesses coming together to build on their strengths and raise awareness more broadly of what exactly the area has to offer.

“The ‘Food In The City Festival’ hosts a range of special events that will be taking place in restaurants, cafes, bars, supermarkets and hotels around Smithfield and Stoneybatter across next weekend, including tasting menus, ice cream tastings and long-table brunches. The initiative is a celebration of local businesses and is designed to entice people to the area and to make sure that Smithfield and Stoneybatter are firmly on the culinary map for those looking for a place to eat close to the city.

“This Festival, which is sponsored by the Dice Bar, Fresh and Spade Enterprise Centre, is a classic example of local traders joining forces to deliver something that is greater than the sum of their parts. It also demonstrates a determination on the part of business owners to maximise their potential by working together. Small businesses are the lifeblood of our economy and initiatives such as this are instrumental in helping to grow business and create additional jobs in the years to come. I wish them every success.”
