The tune has changed

3rd December, 2009

Yesterday FF speaker after speaker ran into the Seanad to praise the Gov and thank them and the Unions for their wonderful work and the proposed deal. They gushed in gratitude. A few senators and myself stuck our head over the parapet and had a go at the deal.

The tune has changed now though. The Morning Ireland roll call of FF backbenchers now has rattled the Government. Because, as I said on the Order of Business,  we knew the Government had lost the confidence of the people yesterday. We know today that they’ve now lost confidence in themselves.

How will this play out?

They’ll do a deal. They have to as Cowen will suffer a huge if not terminal blow. Same for the Union Leaders. But, there’s no way they’ll be able to do this again next year.

The beginning of the end for them?
