Update on New Luas Line

16th January, 2009

The below is an update from the RPA on the new Luas Line for our area.

The Railway Procurement Agency (RPA) is currently preparing a Railway Order application for Luas Line BXD. This Line is included in Transport 21 and links the current terminus of the Green Line at St. Stephen’s Green
with the Luas Red Line north of the Liffey – this is called Luas Line BX – with an onward extension, Luas Line D, to Broombridge and the Maynooth railway line, via Broadstone/Grangegorman and the disused Broadstone railway cutting.

Part of the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) process involves the preparation of an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS), a document which will report on the likely significant environmental effects of Luas Line BXD. RPA is coordinating the EIA and is working with an international team of specialists to consider the likely significant environmental effects associated with Luas Line BXD.

As a preliminary step in the preparation of an EIS, a Draft EIS Scoping Report has been prepared for Luas Line BXD. This document sets out the proposed content (scope) of the Luas Line BXD EIS, the likely
environmental effects to be investigated and the proposed methodology for assessment of the environmental effects.

The Draft EIS Scoping Report for the Luas Line BXD EIS is available for download at http://www.rpa.ie/en/Pages/default.aspx
