Minister Donohoe welcomes €10m stimulus funding for national road schemes

27th August, 2015

Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport, Paschal Donohoe TD, has today (Thursday) published the details of the €10m funding secured for national road schemes across the country, as part of the July Stimulus.

Speaking this afternoon, Minister Donohoe said: ‘In July this year, I secured an additional investment of €34 million to be provided towards critical remedial works, maintenance and strengthening of the road network at national, regional and local level, where funding has been severely constrained since the economic crisis began. €10m of which will be allocated to our national road network.

This spend has a wide geographic spread and will have positive economic impact. The €10 million will be allocated mainly to pavement works on our national road network but also includes for a junction improvement project which is important in terms of facilitating business expansion.

The funding, being allocated to Transport Infrastructure Ireland (formerly known as the NRA) will enable the commencement of critical pavement works on national road network as well as some economically important upgrades. The €10m in stimulus funding comes on top of the €363.7m allocated to Transport Infrastructure Ireland for national road schemes in 2015.

I am pleased to announce that the following schemes will begin construction in 2015 and details of the breakdown by local authority, scheme and expenditure in 2015 are provided in the table below.’
