Capital grants for Regional Airports announced

20th April, 2016

Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport, Paschal Donohoe TD, announced today (Wednesday) that he is allocating €1.2 million of Exchequer grants under his Department’s Regional Airports Programme to the airports in Donegal, Ireland West Airport Knock, Waterford and Kerry. This represents the first allocation of support this year for regional airports and these grants will support safety and security investments at the airports that have been approved to date by the Department.

The Department is continuing to examine further capital funding proposals from the four airports and decisions in relation to these will be made shortly.

Minister Donohoe said: ‘I remain fully committed to supporting the four regional airports in recognition of the role they play in ensuring connectivity for the regions. These initial grants will enable them to proceed with important works to ensure that safety and security standards are maintained and enhanced. Further assistance in 2016 under our Regional Airports Programme 2015-2019 for these airports, both capital and operational supports, will be announced at a later date.’
