PROPOSED GARTH BROOKS CONCERTS

I recently attended the public meeting in the Barbara Ward Community Centre about the proposed Garth Brooks concerts in Croke Park at the end of July. I indicated that I would support the community in opposing the holding of these concerts through the planning process which will begin shortly. This opposition is a result of CrokePark’s failure to communicate with the local community about its plan for additional concerts, never mind its failure to consult the community on the matter. An Event Licence application does not have to lodged with Dublin City Council until May 16th next but let me assure you that I will ensure that local residents are made aware of when that application has been lodged, my views on it and how you can be involved in making sure your own voice is heard.

FUNDING FOR DEVELOPMENT OF YOUTH FACILITIES

The Department of Children recently allocated approximately €1.7m in funding to groups across the Inner City to assist with the development of youth facilities. This money will enable community groups to more effectively direct young people in the area away from the dangers of substance abuse, helping them to build more stable and secure futures. Among the groups due to receive funding from the Department of Children include Bradog, St. Agatha’s / SWAN and the East Wall / North Port Youth Development Group that will receive €111,238. Targeting public funds in ways that ensures our children get the best possible start in life is the best way of using our resources.
