Donohoe urges people to vote for job creation and continued economic recovery

16th May, 2014

Being at heart of Europe is vital if we are to provide jobs for our young people

Fine Gael TD for Dublin Central and Minister of State for European Affairs, Paschal Donohoe, has today (Friday) emphasised the importance of voting for job creation and continued economic recovery in the European elections next Friday, 23rd May.

“Fine Gael has shown the Irish people that we can be trusted with the economy and with job creation. Over 60,000 jobs have been created in the last year alone. A vote for a Fine Gael candidate next Friday is a vote for further job creation for our young people.

“The European Union is of vital importance to job-creation in Ireland. Irish and multinational exporting companies account for well over 500,000 jobs in Ireland and the EU is by far our biggest market.

“Fine Gael understands better than any other party the need for Ireland to be at the heart of Europe. That’s why we have always taken our EU membership and the quality of our MEPs seriously.

“So much of the legislation, regulation and funding programmes that affect Irish companies’ ability to expand and create jobs comes from Europe. Our MEPs are vital to ensuring that the right decisions are made in Europe to facilitate job creation for our young people and the continuation of our economic recovery.

“The EU Youth Guarantee is a commitment to provide young people between 18 and 25 with a good quality offer of employment, continued education, an apprenticeship, a traineeship or work experience within four months of becoming unemployed.

“Your vote next Friday matters because the people we send to Europe to represent us will play an important role in helping to create the environment for job creation and economic growth here in Ireland. Fine Gael’s candidates understand implicitly how important Europe is for Ireland’s economic recovery and will work hard to ensure that young Irish people have the opportunities they deserve.”
