Just to remind me

13th October, 2010

Had a really busy evening. 2 constituency meetings and 2 public meetings. A rapid fire tour of the constituency. But, I finished the evening more upbeat then when I started it.

My first engagement was with Soilse in the Sean O Casey Centre, East Wall.

This was a presentation of Fetac awards to clients who had came off drugs through treatment and the incentives of education and support. It was inspirational. Poetry and drama was the medium of communication. Young men and women talked about how they had left drugs behind them in the search for something better.

After this I attended a public meeting on the future of the Sancta Maria Day Care Centre, Cabra. Faced with a funding crisis the community cam together. They raised nearly 20,000 euro in 2 months. Amazing shared reaction to a crisis.

After this a Fine Gael meeting in Stoneybatter with my friend Senator Jerry Buttimer. Meeting was on in Kavanaghs at the top of Manor Street. New members turned up to hear this discuss the crisis in our country.

So then – people are coming together. To deal with addiction, crisis, our politics. Not a bad place to rebuild from.
