I was in town today for a meeting so I called in to the launch of our New Politics document. There was a huge turnout from the media so I really hope that this leads to an informed debate on our proposals.
Most people are aware of our proposals in relation to the constitution, the presidency and the Seanad. At the heart of this is the acceptance that we cannot talk about reform if we don’t tackle political reform.
Other ideas were emphasised today – a senior civil service based on contracts, an improvement in the budgeting process, citizen assemblies and reform of the FOI system.
I believe that a key cause of our economic depression is national political failure. These proposals will play a key role in dealing with this failure.
