Making the Seanad Work

12th March, 2009

There is a lot of slagging of the Seanad at the moment. Small example of how it works well happened today.

The Harbours Bill passed report stage today. Due to my interventions two changes were made.

Firstly, the bill has been amended to ensure that any changes a port authority makes must be consistent with the county and city development plan for the area. Secondly, that the need for public consultation be put on a statutory footing.

Small changes but they could have a real effect on our ports and the people who depend on them.
