Minister Donohoe meets US Congressional delegation, led by Speaker Nancy Pelosi

17th April, 2019

The Minister for Finance and Public Expenditure and Reform, Paschal Donohoe T.D., meets this afternoon with the Honourable Nancy Pelosi, Speaker of the US House of Representatives, and a delegation of eight Congressional leaders, including the Honourable Richard Neal, Chairman of the House Committee on Ways and Means.

The meeting takes place following an address by Speaker Pelosi to Dáil Éireann, as part of the programme of Dáil 100 commemorative events.
Speaking in advance of the meeting, Minister Donohoe said:

‘’I am delighted to meet Speaker Pelosi and the delegation of senior members of the United States Congress on their historic visit to Ireland. The ties of friendship linking Ireland and the US are broad and deep, and this visit symbolises the importance with which both our countries view this partnership. This is a relationship the Government is committed to further strengthening in the years ahead.

I would like to thank the United States for its ongoing support for peace on this island, and the provisions of the Good Friday Agreement. The United States is also an important economic partner for Ireland. Irish companies continue to invest in the US, and American investment supports jobs in Ireland. I look forward to discussing how to further strengthen this two-way relationship, as well as to meeting some of the many friends of Ireland on Capitol Hill.”
