Minister Donohoe to attend March Euro Summit to update on Eurogroup Matters

24th March, 2023

The Minister for Public Expenditure, NDP Delivery and Reform, Paschal Donohoe, T.D., is in Brussels today (Friday) to speak at the Euro Summit meeting of EU Heads of State and Government in his capacity as President of the Eurogroup. He will address EU leaders at the Euro Summit alongside the President of the ECB, Christine Lagarde, where they will discuss the economic and financial situation in Europe and related policy coordination.

Minister Donohoe will focus on current and prospective economic conditions in the Euro Area and the implications for budgetary policy. He will also offer views on the economic governance framework, as well as on broader issues relating to the architecture of the Economic and Monetary Union, including progress on the Banking Union and further strengthening the Capital Markets Union. These will be considered as a possible source of growth, competitiveness, and resilience, and of the investment we need for the green and digital transitions.

Speaking ahead of the Euro Summit, Minister Donohoe said:

“The Euro Area economy has shown an extraordinary level of resilience over the past number of years in the face of multiple challenges. I look forward to once again engaging with EU leaders on the work of the Eurogroup and our priorities in terms of economic policy coordination, as well broader issues in respect of progress on the Banking Union and the Capital Markets Union.”
