Stalled Transport 21 Projects a Serious Blow to Dublin Commuters

Fine Gael Seanad Transport Spokesperson, Senator Paschal Donohoe, today (Sunday) called on the Minister for Transport to come clean on what is happening with major transport projects following a Sunday Independent report showing significant infrastructure plans and Transport 21 projects on hold, both in Dublin and outside.

“The Minister for Transport has repeatedly claimed that major infrastructure projects will not be affected by the economic slowdown. However revelations today indicate that the Government is considering the delay of major projects such as Metro West and Luas extensions. Dublin commuters will be alarmed to learn that these developments are to be further delayed. Even more importantly, these are the very projects that are needed to kickstart our economy.

“Minister Dempsey must clarify what is happening with vital Transport 21 projects immediately.

“That the deferral of major capital projects is even being considered shows what a mess this Government has made of managing public spending. We should be speeding these projects up, not slowing them down.”
