The last Saturday

19th February, 2011

Fine Gael was criticised by two groups yesterday.

Firstly the unions showed a remarkably thin skin when our website described them as a “vested interest”. The unions were central to Social Partnership, pushed for benchmarking without reform and were in Government Buildings practically every day during the Tiger Years. How they couldn’t be described as a vested interest is beyond me.

Then came the Irish National Organisation of the Unemployed. They singled out Fine Gael’s welfare plans as something to worry about. It is telling that the INOU made no appraisal of the various parties plans to create employment. But that’s a matter for them.

The final weekend of the campaign is on. This time next week the votes will be being counted. It has been a long campaign. I am both tired and excited, all at the same time.
