Things continue to frey

Fine Gael Dublin Central Senator, Paschal Donohoe, said the discovery of bomb-making equipment this morning (Friday) near Smithfield is extremely worrying, especially as this is the second bomb-related incident to have occurred in the Dublin Central constituency in less than six months.

“The discovery of bomb-making equipment in a house on Paul Street early this morning, following a Garda search of the premises, is disquieting and a serious cause for concern. Not least because of the fact that this is the second bomb-related incident to have occurred in Dublin Central in the last number of months.

“Back in March a number of dissident republicans were arrested in the area of Phibsboro, with reports of ‘pipe bombs’ also being found. Now to find that materials, which could facilitate the production of even a small number of bombs, have been discovered in the north inner city is a worrying development which will warrant further investigation.

“Once again the Gardaí and the Defence Forces’ Army Bomb Disposal team are to be commended for their tirelessness and bravery in bringing potentially dangerous situations, such as this, to an end without incident.”
