This week in the European Parliament

2nd February, 2010

This is a “group” week in the European Parliament. The political groups will devote most of the week to their plans for the 8-11 February plenary session, where the key event is the scheduled vote on the new European Commission.  There are therefore only a very limited number official meetings of Parliamentary bodies scheduled in Brussels.

  • Commissioner-designate hearing Crystalline Georgieva, the new Bulgarian Commissioner-designate for humanitarian aid and crisis response, is scheduled to appear before the Development Committee for a three-hour hearing.

  • Justice and Home Affairs
The Civil Liberties Committee  will vote on the EU’s agreement with the US on the sharing of bank transfer data (SWIFT).

  • Spanish Presidency
The Spanish Foreign Minister will attend meetings of the Foreign Affairs and Development Committees, to outline the Presidency’s priorities in these areas.
